Bioidentical hormones mirror those naturally produced by the body and are commonly derived from plants like soybeans. They can be administered via pellets, troches, pills, and patches, offering patients hormone replacement that closely resembles their natural bodily functions.
Hormone replacement therapy has a myriad of benefits, including acting as an antidepressant, improving sleep, reducing anxiety, alleviating hot flashes (in women), increasing muscle mass, boosting libido, enhancing mental focus, raising energy levels, decreasing the risk of Alzheimer’s, reducing cellulite dimpling, and alleviating aches and pains.
While studies have indicated an increased risk of certain cancers (breast), stroke, and blood clots with synthetic hormones, all hormone therapies carry some level of risk. Certain populations, such as tobacco users, those with untreated sleep apnea, morbidly obese patients, and the elderly, may be at higher risk.
HRT is contraindicated in individuals with a history of cancer, coronary artery disease, stroke or heart attack, clotting disorders, and uncontrolled diabetes.
Common side effects may include facial hair growth, voice changes, acne, increased red blood cell production, and thinning hair (especially in women on higher doses of testosterone).
Men on testosterone therapy may notice mental changes within a month and physical changes within 2-3 months. Patients using pellets may experience improvements in a couple of weeks.
When initiating hormone replacement therapy, labs should be checked within 4-6 weeks and then monitored every 3 months thereafter.
Aesthetic lasers do not emit ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation, typically below 400 nanometers, can potentially impact cellular DNA and RNA. However, the lasers we use emit light at wavelengths of 755 and 1064 nanometers, ensuring they do not affect the patient's cells.
Most laser therapies are not painful or uncomfortable. However, tattoo removal can be painful, for which we provide topical and local anesthesia for the procedure.
Many of the services provided, such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) via pellets or the use of compounded drugs for weight loss, are used "off-label," meaning they are not FDA-approved as they are not considered medical necessities. Instead, these services are utilized for life enhancement and optimizing health for our patients.
While many compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, the pharmacies that supply our clinic utilize FDA-cleared manufacturers. One commonly used pharmacy is Empower Pharmacy.
